It has been 3 days and I still think I should have not seen it. It has left such a bad taste that I feel annoyed at myself having seen it. Yes, I am talking about the "Remix version" of mile sur mera tumhara. An iconic song that was so simple, charming, hummable and feel-good patriotic is completely ruined in its new avatar.
How I ended up watching it? Well my roommate told me about it and I was curious, like everyone else, to see it.But lo and behold! After watching that seemingly never-ending 2 part series on you tube, I felt cheated and insulted. My first reaction was- "What was that?" Are these people serious? Where is the soul of the song? In order to modernize it they have completely bared it to the threads! The old one had many voices but one soul- one rhythm. It beautifully captured the essence of unity in diversity- many languages but one emotion. I am still scratching my head to figure this one out! And no it is not because the song is immensely creative and lesser mortals cannot get its underlying theme- it is just because it is plain trash!
It looks like a personal photo shoot of Bollywood- a place where everyone is trying to showcase their personal styles. Look at some of them and you'll know what I mean. The bulk of the video is made up of these painted faces and then as if a part of sudden realization, there are the 3 Olympic medalists making a brief apperance towards the end! And the most disgusting part is that the armed forces are relegated to a "dikhana hai isliye dikha dete hain" last few seconds!
To me personally that was the most disgusting part. People who protect us day and night-die for us, without us even remembering them, are included as fillers- and that too at the cost of those irritatingly hypocrite filmstars who lead an unreasonably cushy life.
I am still wondering how someone can get past the idea that a bunch of money spinning, tantrum throwing entertainers deserve more credit than a battalion of soldiers who endure the greatest hardships and still lead humble lives-Isn't the Republic Day more about honoring the real heroes?
The best part about bad movies and videos is that they make good reviews! Your post is not only informative but also hilarious. However, i take PMS as a new advertising model. Where the Bollywood celebs advertise in between a few seconds of the PMS video. PMS is awesome!
ReplyDeleteAdvertising! You picked the right word Prashant. And when it is Bollywood no amount of advertising is enough. I am wondering though if they did it for free?
ReplyDeleteI am totally with you in this case!!!
ReplyDeletePhir Mile is just bollywood on a big canvas! It doesn't leave you feeling patriotic & looks like an half baked effort. Had they changed the song I wouldn't have felt bad but it is like spoiling the classic version!!
You are right Smita. If they had to show Bollywood, they could've just got a new song.
