the Haves..............................................and the Have nots!!

The gap between the haves and the have nots in India is increasing at a mind boggling rate! What else can explain the distance between a $370 million IPL team and some kids near Allahabad eating mud cakes for survival! It is not even shameful anymore.........it is much beyond that. I feel helpless and don't know how I can help those starving kids and at the same time I don't know what I can do to bridge this huge disparity. At times I wonder if people have stopped bothering about things around them. The new way of life that has a lot of money......money that we get at a very young age now has turned us all into selfish, insensitive, unnerved individuals. We don't have time to stop and look at the sidewalks to see if someone needs our help, nor do we have a heart to feed a hungry child. There is something that we all can do, but I am sure there is always some excuse waiting for us round the corner........'i am in a hurry,' 'i don't want to feel embarrassed,' 'i don't want to give to the people begging on the roads,' 'i alone cannot improve the system,' 'i don't have so much money to give to everyone.'
I don't think we need to do big things at once.......small steps go a long way in solving problems....a small gesture, a tiny act of kindness can feed a kid and fill a mother's heart with gratitude and happiness. I am not preaching anyone to shun entertaining themselves and stop watching IPL(though I have), but I would definitely say that if those with tons of money are acting miserly it does not mean that we have to ape them.......we have always been a country where we share every small morsel of food with the other hungry people.......why can't we do it now......times have changed a lot........but have we changed as much? and do we really need to change that much?It is us who need to extend our hands to those who need us......aren't they a part of "incredible and shining India?"

  1. this post made me sit for a while and think about what you said here. thought provoking hai..

i know every individual thinks "mujh akele se kya hoga..??" little do they realise that a lot of "akele-s" together can make a difference, however small it may be..

what I feel is that the major problem of this country is its population.

Well written article.. keep them coming

  2. well, thinking about population as a negative trait has not helped us in the last 60 years....maybe we can start thinking of it as something positive.....maybe we can say.. well there are so many people who can help the poor rise up on their feet! It is a way of looking at things and I truly believe that no one and yes NO ONE looks down upon their system and country as much as we Indians do.....we almost grow up with that attitude and that needs to change........
